New Delhi: Perplexity has now decided to close the gap with its Personal Computer feature in its Mac application. Rather than limiting AI to a browser tab or a cloud-based chatbot, it brings its AI agents directly onto the users’ Macs.
This system can also work with local files, interact with native Mac apps, access web tools, and complete multi-step tasks with minimal user intervention. The Personal Computer is built on top of its identically named AI agent platform, which is designed to handle longer and more complex tasks automatically. With this latest Mac integration, those AI capabilities now expand beyond the cloud-based systems and onto the user’s local devices.
This feature can run on AI agents across the local files, native applications, web tools, and cloud services while still relying on the secure servers for several operations. This aim is to reduce the need to constantly switch between tabs, apps, and files during work.
Users can assign tasks to the AI system and let it manage parts of the workflow automatically. Personal Computer can work with local folders, native Mac apps, browser-based tools, and more than 400 connectors. Connectors are integrations that enable the AI to access data from other platforms and services.
AI can also interact with web-based tools via Perplexity’s Comet browser. Users will remain in control of sensitive actions via approval prompts whenever needed. Running the feature on Mac mini enables the AI system to stay active continuously in the background. This allows the AI agent to keep processing tasks while the user focuses on other work.
