New Delhi: Google has recently announced that its Gemini AI platform will fully replace the Google Assistant on Android devices in 2026, pushing back its earlier timeline to enable a more seamless migration. The change will take effect on Android phones, tablets, and even the standalone iOS application, which will be phased out once Gemini takes over. Google initially planned to complete the upgrade by the end of 2025, but the company now stated that the migration will continue into 2026, citing the need to avoid disruption during the holiday season and to ensure feature parity between Assistant and Gemini.
The rollout is also expected to be gradual and region-based rather than an immediate global switch. Gemini represents Google’s next-generation AI assistant, designed to deliver more conversational, visual, and context-aware experiences.
