Google brings Gemini AI to maps for smarter photo captions

New Delhi: Google has recently started rolling out its latest upgrade to Google Maps, which now adds AI-powered caption suggestions by using Gemini, along with a set of changes focused on simplifying how users upload content and track their activity on the platform.

This upgrade also puts more emphasis on how users share photos and reviews, with Gemini now helping users to generate captions automatically.

Once the image is selected, the AI analyzes it and generates a draft caption that is based on what it detects in the photo. The users can now edit or remove the suggested caption before posting it, which offers them control over the final text.

The idea is going to reduce the effort required to describe a place, especially for users who upload multiple photos or reviews. This feature is now available in Enlighs on iOS in the US, and it is also expected to extend to more regions and Android devices in the near future.

Google Maps is also making it easier for users to upload photos and videos. If the users grant access to their device’s media library, the application will show recent photos and videos directly within the Contribute tab.

This will remove the need to manually browse via the gallery by enabling users to select and upload content quickly. This feature is already available globally on Android and will go on to roll out to iOS in the coming months.
