Gemini on Android could soon handle tasks in the background

New Delhi: Google is slightly integrating its Gemini into its ecosystem, from smartwatches and smartphones to home assistants, where the AI chatbot now appears in various forms. As Gemini continues to improve and gain wider adoption, Google is also focusing on refining the overall user experience. The company is working on a feature that would enable Gemini to process specific requests in the background, making interactions smoother and more seamless.

Currently, the Gemini overlay can be triggered by either using the Google hotword or long pressing on the power button, but it disappears as soon as users tap on the background. This means users have to start their interactions with the AI chatbot from scratch every time they close it, making it impossible to toggle between Gemini and another application. But on the latest beta version of the Google application, the tech giant has found a way to make the Gemini overlay work with other applications.

While none of these changes have made it to the users, the publication stated it was able to get a sneak peek at the latest interface that lets the users navigate away from the Gemini overlay without losing what they were doing in the background. This is really useful when users want to check something using Gemini without having to worry about the AI chatbot’s overlay disappearing all of a sudden. However, since the functionality is still in early stages, it may take a while before Google rolls it out for everyone.
