Apple accused of ChatGPT bias by Elon Musk, Sam Altman fires back

New Delhi: Elon Musk is threatening to appeal to Apple for allegedly favouring OpenAI’s ChatGPT in the Apple App Store, an unequivocal antitrust violation and preparing immediate legal action against Apple. Elon Musk has shared his opinion on this matter on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). In that post, Musk has written that, “Apple is behaving in a manner that makes it impossible for any of the AI companies besides OpenAI to reach at 1st in the App Store, which is an unequivocal antitrust violation.

After this much, Elon Musk also written that xAI will take some immediate legal action on this, on that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman have replied to Elon Musk that, “ This is an remarable claim given what I have heard alleged that Elon does to manipulate X to benefit himself and his own companies and harm his competitors and those people he doesn’t like. This was the clear statement that Sam Altman gave to Elon Musk on his X post.

Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, recently rolled out Grok’s companion chatbot, followed by the controversial Grok Imagine tool, which can generate AI images and videos. Later, this incident, Grok Imagine was made free for all users. Grok application climbed to the 29th position in the App store rankings, according to the App figures. xAI also made Grok 4 free for everyone, the company’s most advanced AI model.

Elon Musk is upset that Apple is not giving Grok a higher placement in the App Store while ChatGPT remains at the top. In one of Elon’s previous posts, he also questioned Apple why they refuse to include either X or Grok in their must-have section when X is the number one news application in the world and Grok ranks fifth among all the applications. So it seems the situation is heating up, and could end up in the court. While Apple has a deal with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT features into Apple Intelligence, there is no indication that this partnership is influencing App Store rankings. This might be raised because of the Kaggle tournament, where Grok also achieved 2nd place, and in the 1st OpenAI ChatGPT made the place, which also raised this matter for Elon Musk.
