New Delhi: Swiggy, the popular food delivery platform in India, has recently introduced a platform fee of ₹2 per order for food orders in Bengaluru, where the company is headquartered. The fee is being charged regardless of the total value of the order and is expected to be rolled out in other regions, including Delhi and Mumbai, soon.
According to a statement by a Swiggy spokesperson, the platform fee will help the company operate and improve its platform, as well as enhance app features to provide a seamless app experience for customers. The fee is yet to be implemented for e-commerce or for Instamart, Swiggy’s on-demand grocery delivery service.
Although the fee may seem small, analysts believe that it will generate a large enough corpus for Swiggy to reinvest back into its business. This is significant, considering that Swiggy delivers over 1.5 million orders each day.
