New Delhi: Murf AI, a Bengaluru artificial intelligence startup, has captured the world’s attention in the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence voice race, thanks to its natural, low-cost offerings. It adds a new Falcon 2 text-to-speech model to its portfolio, which it says could be a direct competitor to voice AI systems from companies like OpenAI and ElevenLabs.
Does this imply that Murf AI will make it against OpenAI? Yes, but predominantly for the voice AI business. However, Murf AI isn’t a rival to OpenAI in all aspects of its AI operations. Rather, it’s focused on business companies that require speedy, lifelike and budget friendly AI-driven speech for customer support and other functions.
The benchmarks that Artificial Analysis has published indicate that Falcon 2 surpassed some of the other systems, such as OpenAI’s Realtime API. The model can also be made to react within 100 milliseconds and this could be beneficial for real time conversations.
Murf AI may have an edge in pricing. Some competitors to Falcon 2 have higher rates for every minute that is produced from the video. If companies are dealing with millions of minutes of voice calls, the reduced expense may be a key factor.
Industries like call centres, banks, and airlines are seeing the potential for AI voice agents, a market Murf AI aims to disrupt with its solution. The technology is able to broadcast over 150 voices in more than 35 languages, the company states.
The report states that Murf AI, founded in 2020 by Sneha Roy, Ankur Edkie and Divyanshu Pandey, currently has over 10 million users and over 300 companies using it.
Nevertheless, success in the specific benchmarks does not indicate general superiority of Murf AI over OpenAI. OpenAI has much more powerful AI, a very large user base and a lot of resources.
The more significant takeaway from the situation is that Indian AI startups are now creating solutions for the global market, too. They are more and more coming at sectors of global companies in AI field. The Falcon 2 highlights a way for smaller companies to actually have a competitive edge in the rapidly expanding voice AI industry, thanks to its competitive pricing, fast performance, and superior voice quality.
