New Delhi: Indian meme marketing startup Wubba Lubba Dub Dub (WLDD) has secured $1.25 Mn in a seed funding round led by Negen Capital. The funding will be used to accelerate the growth of the company, which creates and offers fun content to businesses seeking to expand their audience reach. WLDD also offers influencer marketing, experiential marketing, and other services to build communities and audiences.

WLDD was founded in 2018 by three college friends, Arihant Jain, Vivekanand Kilari, and Jaidev Kesti, who identified the universal appeal of memes and the language of emotions and nostalgia that they represent. The company claims to have worked with over 120 businesses, launched more than 1,050 campaigns, and has a creator community of over 10,000 people.

In the new world of digital marketing, where intellectual property is a natural extension of a business, WLDD has built multiple IPs over the last five years, attracting eight million followers across their digital platforms. The company aims to grow this figure to 80 million in the next five years.

The Indian content influencer marketing sector is expected to grow to INR 3,000 Cr in FY24, according to a report by Zefmo. Other players in the Indian meme marketing industry include GryNow, Youngun India, Confluencer, and more. However, a report by ET reveals that, as of October 2022, only 1.5 Lakh creators were able to make money out of more than 8 Cr creators in India. The study also revealed that less than 1% of content creators earn around INR 53 Lakhs. Despite the growing number of content creators, only a handful of Indian creators are able to draw money from it.

The capital raised by WLDD will help the company to continue its expansion plans and contribute to the growth of the Indian content influencer marketing sector. The success of meme-based marketing campaigns has been well documented and continues to gain popularity worldwide. The innovative approach of companies like WLDD, which focuses on creating fun and engaging content, could be the key to unlocking the potential of the digital marketing industry in India.
