New Delhi: India’s semiconductor ambitions received a significant boost after Kerala-based startup Netrasemi successfully completed the development and testing of its indigenous 12-nanometer AI chip, marking an important step for the country’s deep-tech ecosystem. The chip, known as the A2000, is designed for edge AI applications including surveillance systems, robotics, industrial automation, drones, and smart devices.
The achievement comes as India works to strengthen its semiconductor capabilities and reduce dependence on imported technolog
ies. Semiconductor chips are the foundation of modern electronics and power everything from smartphones and laptops to AI systems and industrial machinery. As global demand for chips continues to rise, countries around the world are investing heavily in domestic chip development and manufacturing.
Netrasemi’s breakthrough is particularly important because advanced chip design has traditionally been dominated by a handful of global technology companies. The startup’s progress demonstrates that Indian companies are increasingly capable of developing sophisticated semiconductor products for emerging technology markets.
The company has already begun sampling the chip to potential customers and is targeting commercial production in the near future. Industry observers believe the technology could find applications across multiple sectors, including smart cities, security infrastructure, industrial automation, and AI-powered edge computing solutions.
