How Flipkart Minutes will challenge Blinkit and Zepto with premium grocery and Pykd

New Delhi: Flipkart is looking to expand its quick-commerce vertical with the introduction of premium and gourmet groceries into its quick commerce service, Flipkart Minutes. The company has also unveiled a new brand under the name Pykd which the company will launch food products under.

It coincides with the quick-commerce retailers’ search for every day groceries like milk, vegetables and domestic products from inside India. Businesses are making an effort now to promote high-quality products that can contribute to the value of each customer’s order.

Flipkart Minutes Adds Premium Food Products

Flipkart Minutes will be launched under the new-cum-revamped gourmet groceries segment and will have a host of gourmet and speciality food products. There is a broad spectrum ranging from cheese, to coffee, wood-pressed oils and ghee, ramen and noodles, chocolates, to kombucha and boba.

The company is also eyeing increased offerings of high-end brands and products in the category as it expands.

Flipkart will be selling some products under a cut-throat brand name as well Pykd. The brand today has names like chips and namkeen to its name. Flipkart’s brand will give the company the autonomy to have a better control on the product and pricing, and also ensure a better presence in the fast-expanding premium foods market.

How Flipkart Minutes Will Compete

Other quick-commerce companies like Zepto, Swiggy Instamart and Blinkit are going to be a big name in the game against Flipkart Minutes. These companies already have a customer base large enough and delivery systems in several cities across India.

Relying on only quick deliveries won’t suffice for Flipkart Minutes to get a good turnover. The firm is also working on high-quality grocery items as well as expanding product offerings and implementing its private label brand.

Pykd could become an important part of this strategy. Private label brands can also allow Flipkart more flexibility in pricing as well as a chance to boost the margins. Meanwhile, with its massive user base, Flipkart can leverage on bringing in more users to Minutes.

Competitive pricing, availability of products, discounts and consumer experience will also be crucial for Flipkart if it wants to gain consumer attention from its competitors.

Why Quick-Commerce Companies Are Moving Into Premium Grocery

This shift toward premium grocery is seen as a part of the change in the India’s quick-commerce market. Companies are no longer concentrating on delivering basic every day product in a matter of minutes.

Generally the prices of premium food products are more than regular food products. If quick-commerce firms can upsell based on the sale of such products, their customers will spend more at any given transaction. This may contribute to generate better revenue and profit under the competition in the sector.

While other companies have their eyes on the premium grocery customer, Flipkart is doing the same. Zepto is cooking up its higher priced grocery service and Blinkit has already debuted its gourmet experience. Another property openaar working on premium grocery products, Bengaluru based Firstclub is also interested in it.

Flipkart Minutes Continues to Expand

Since its launch in 2024, Flipkart Minutes has been playing a growing role in India’s swift-commerce field. The service has now expanded to things like electronics, cosmetic or beauty products and wellness and lifestyle products.

Flipkart aims to be a bigger player in India’s rapidly expanding quick-commerce segment with the launch of Pykd and its more extensive line of gourmet groceries.

There’s a shift in the competition that’s now no longer about speed. However, as businesses compete for a bigger slice of India’s grocery pie, product variety, pricing, private labels, customer loyalty and the value of orders are all taking on increasingly significant importance.
