New Delhi: Neuralink, Elon Musk’s brain chip company, has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to commence its initial human tests. The company’s ultimate goal is to establish a connection between the human brain and computers, with the aim of restoring vision and mobility for individuals. Although the exact start date for the trials has not been disclosed, Neuralink has made it clear that they are not currently recruiting participants.
Elon Musk first discussed the idea of obtaining approval for human trials of Neuralink’s brain implant in 2019. Musk believes that this groundbreaking chip has the potential to address severe conditions such as paralysis and blindness. However, despite the company being established in 2016, it wasn’t until early 2022 that Neuralink began the process of seeking FDA approval.
Prior to granting approval, the FDA had expressed concerns regarding the lithium battery within the implant, the potential movement of wires within the brain, and the safe extraction of the device without causing any damage to brain tissue.
Neuralink envisions a future where their brain-computer interfaces enable seamless communication between humans and machines. This technology aims to enhance cognitive abilities, accelerate information processing, and enable direct interaction with computers or virtual environments.
The concept of such technology is reminiscent of science fiction films like Terminator or the iconic villain Dr. Octopus in Spider-Man. However, this recent development has generated mixed reactions among Twitter users. Many are excited about the prospects of this new technology and eagerly anticipate the opportunity to participate, while others express curiosity about its future implications. The buzz surrounding Neuralink’s FDA approval has sparked a meme fest on Twitter, with numerous hilarious reactions that shouldn’t be missed.
