Surat: For the first time since it was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019, the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB), touted as the world’s largest office building–much bigger than the Pentagon in the US–is holding the pre-auction of rough diamonds in its precincts. Dubai’s top three rough diamond trading companies have organised diamond viewing for the merchants and diamond companies based in Surat.
The pre-auction, which started from March 23, will continue till March 27. The pre-auction has been organised by the Gem and Jewelry Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) pre-auction viewing of rough diamonds of Dubai’s Star Gems Company from March 23 at SDB, which will continue till March 27 and then the auction will be held through online tendering. Apart from this, 3 companies will show rough till April.
Diamond traders from India and abroad will join the event. This viewing has been organized by GJEPC at Tower-B, Office No. B-201. During the pre-auction viewing, buyers will get a chance to closely inspect the rough diamonds, so that traders can trade with transparency.
Going to Dubai-Belgium was expensive for small diamond traders, now they will get direct benefits
Till now, rough viewing was done in Dubai and Belgium. As going abroad was expensive for small traders, they could not participate in direct purchases. Due to foreign travel, visa, accommodation and travel expenses, small traders used to stay away from the rough market. Now, with viewing taking place at the Surat Diamond Bourse, small traders will be able to directly view the diamonds and participate in the purchase. Travel expenses will be saved and more small traders will be able to enter the rough market.
