Surat: For the first time, the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI), an apex body of the trade and industries in south Gujarat, has announced a special ‘Textile Awards’ in May to promote excellence, innovation and sustainable development in the textile sector. A total of 45 awards will be given away under this initiative, to recognise the best performing organizations in various sectors of the textile industry.
SGCCI president Nikhil Madrasi said the chamber has taken up the initiative for the first time to honor the entrepreneurs in the country’s largest man-made fibre (MMF) sector with the awards in various segments such as fabrics, yarns, garments, made-ups, processing and dyeing as well as trading and retailing. An attempt has been made through this initiative to promote all the important sectors.
Under the main categories of Textile Awards, companies will be honored for their use of sustainable and alternative materials in textile production under Product Innovation / Best Alternate Material Use. Under the Exemplary Performance in Exports category, organizations that have adopted best practices and sustainability in the export sector will be recognized.
In addition, organizations in the textile hub of Surat that are adopting the quality control and continuous improvement systems will be awarded for excellent performance in quality management, while industries that implement modern technology and digital transformation will be encouraged for excellence in technology adoption.
Awards will be given for best performance in human resource management and employee well-being under the Best HR Practices (Employee Welfare) category. Also, organizations that contribute to circular economy and textile recycling will be honored in the Best Recycler (Textile Sector) category.
Weavers, knitters, spinners, textile dyeing and processing units, garment manufacturers, technical textile manufacturers and made-up manufacturers will be able to apply in each award category. Traders will also be given the opportunity to apply in some select categories.
Institutions from various sectors will be eligible for these awards and they will be able to compete for the best performance in their field, thereby raising the bar for quality and innovation in the industry.
SGCCI’s will prove to be an important step in advancing innovation, quality, technology and sustainable development in the textile industry. These awards will honour the best performing units/institutions in the industry and this will become a source of inspiration for other industries.
