Daman: The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Daman campus burst into a kaleidoscope of colors and culture as students, faculty, and staff celebrated Lohri, Makar Sankranti, and Uttarayan, ushering in the harvest season with traditional flair. Amid the joyous bonfires, kite-flying, and crackling sugarcane sticks, the event underscored NIFT’s vibrant community spirit—just as the institute announced an extended deadline for its 2026 admissions, inviting aspiring designers to join this creative hub.
Textile Design and Fashion Management students stole the spotlight, flaunting an array of traditional attire from Punjab’s intricate Phulkari sarees to Maharashtra’s vibrant Paithani weaves. Dance performances to lively tunes like “Suno Goro Ki Toor” filled the air, while participants savored harvest delights such as til laddoo, makar chawal, sarson ka saag, and jaggery-sesame sweets. Chants of “Til gud ka God God bola”—evoking the sweetness of sesame (til) and jaggery (gud) for prosperity—echoed through the festivities, blending North Indian Lohri traditions with South Indian Uttarayan vibes in a true cultural mashup.
Daman Director Dr Sanjay Shrivastava highlighted NIFT’s diverse, pan-India student body and its commitment to fostering creativity through regional heritage. Kite-flying added a sky-high thrill, symbolizing aspirations soaring as high as the colorful patangs.
