Mundra: Adani Public School Bagpiper Band along with an enthusiastic group of 75 students at Adani House gave a warm welcome to Nisha Kumari, Nilesh Barot and young Niksha Barot on the successful conclusion of their inspiring ‘Pedal to Plant’ campaign.
The event was graced by the presence of Nitin Saini (Customs Commissioner, Mundra), Rakshit Shah (Executive Director, APSEZ), Sujal Shah (CEO, Adani Ports Mundra), Ami Shah (Director, Adani Public School) and Hemant Kumar (Principal, Adani Public School).
A three-member team – Mrs. Nisha Kumari, Mr. Nilesh Barot and 8-year-old Niksha Barot – completed an extraordinary journey of over 4600 km from Arunachal Pradesh to Mundra. The journey spread awareness about environmental conservation, sustainable living and active lifestyle with strong support from the Fit India movement. The main objective of the campaign is to make India greener by planting over 1,00,000 trees, while also inspiring students, youth and citizens across the country to contribute towards a healthy and sustainable future.
Renowned Indian mountaineer and environmentalist, Mount Everest conqueror Nisha Kumari – who is one of the few Indian women to scale Mount Everest and other global peaks, besides achieving the rare feat of a challenging cycle journey from India to London – led the expedition, ably guided by cycling coach and environmental activist Nilesh Barot. The participation of 8-year-old Niksha Barot in this journey was particularly noteworthy, sending a powerful message that fitness, discipline and environmental awareness can be started at any age.
The choice of Mundra Port for the culmination of this journey is particularly fitting, as Adani Ports is recognised as one of the greenest port operators globally. It has ongoing initiatives including increasing green cover through large-scale mangrove afforestation and tree plantations, phasing out fossil fuels by electrifying port equipment (such as cranes and vehicles), and a commitment to power all operations with renewable energy. Furthermore, the aim is to move towards zero emissions in the coming years.
The arrival at Mundra is not only the triumphant end of this historic cycling achievement, but also the culmination of a meaningful national movement that reinforces the shared vision of a greener and stronger India.
Nilesh Barot said, “Our aim for this cycling journey is to promote tree plantation with the powerful slogan of “Change Before Climate Change”. We have mainly focused on creating awareness about climate change and health during the campaign. Despite facing many difficulties along the way, we believe that dedication always leads you to your goals. What Nisha Kumari has achieved by completing this difficult journey is a testament to the same unwavering dedication that enabled her to climb Mount Everest.”
Rakshit Shah, Executive Director, APSEZ added that Adani Group has always been committed to environmental and sustainable initiatives, under which thousands of trees have been planted by Adani Group under Adani Van at Mundra, and in the coming time, all these places will be built in dense forests.
After the felicitation ceremony, Nisha Kumari, Nilesh Barot and 8-year-old Niksha Barot participated in tree plantation along with Chief Guest Nitin Saini (Customs Commissioner, Mundra), Rakshit Shah (Executive Director, APSEZ) and Sujal Shah (CEO, Adani Ports Mundra), marking the complete conclusion of their remarkable long-distance journey at Mundra Port.
