CREDUCE, a macro-scale organization headquartered in Ahmedabad (Gujarat). Creduce was established in 2012 by Shailendra Singh Rao and Vishwaraj Singh Rao. It provides services to enable people and businesses to live a ‘carbon-conscious’ life. This concept aggressively defines the landscape of how we live and utilize the earth and its resources. Creduce is distinctively recognized as one of India’s eminent and leading knowledge and technology-based service provider with 12000+ MW renewable energy, other projects, and 500+ Clients.
Q. What inspired you the most to start this venture?
About a decade ago, I was working with a climate change advisory firm where I saw this huge opportunity and realized not many people in Bharat understood the potential. So, I started on my own with a few clients and then, as they say, the rest is history.
The real inspiration is to make a difference in how we live and leave our planet. There is a lot to be done, and by doing it, we also stand a chance to make a significant difference to the present and the next generation. That feeling wakes me up and pushes me day in and day out.
Q. What challenges did you face during this journey; how did you overcome the same?
Being an entrepreneur anywhere in the world is a massive challenge in itself. Keeping your head above the water and swimming initially against the tide is a huge challenge. However, with that spirit, I saw the real fighter within me emerge.
Challenges were thrown not only by the process but also by the system. When Mr Donald Trump took over as president and rejected the Paris Accord, the entire business worldwide slumped. So, assuaging clients, looking for an alternate business and then post-Trump, re-starting and triumphing are all invaluable business lessons that life has taught me.
Yes, in between those times, I not only built two businesses but also successfully exited them, making a tidy profit.
Q. How can businesses be future-proofed against climate change?
Quite simply by investing in the climate. By investing in quality ESG goals and implementing them into your day-to-day operations, businesses can be future-proofed against climate change.
We have caused considerable harm for too long. It is time we re-pay the debt and this is only possible. Companies need to focus on the environment by ensuring they reduce their Carbon Footprint. We have recently tied up with a firm that can help companies identify their Carbon Footprint and our KICHEE – Bharat’s first Sustainability Blockchain token to offset it. Companies will have to find ways to cut down emissions and invest wisely.
Q. Why is achieving net zero important for businesses and how is net zero clouds different from other carbon accounting tools?
To begin with, it is a Dream Goal given by our beloved Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. That makes it a mission for all Indians to follow. Secondly, it also shows our commitment to the next generation that we intend to leave the earth much better than we found it. This is the least we can do for them.
Net Zero clouds allow you to manage Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions across your organization’s entire ecosystem, including your suppliers, dealers and partners. This ensures that there is no slippage at any location or spot. It also allows you to set targets and measure the up-to-date progress of your goals. Something as crucial as building energy intensity (BEI) can be measured using Net Zero Cloud. This is useful when it comes to reporting the energy use of buildings.
So, when the world is converging to cloud-based systems, it is time the same applies to net-zero efforts too. Once the executives get one single report collating all emissions, it becomes a useful tool for tracking and managing emissions.
Q. What would be the one policy change you would make?
Well, Bharat is in the process of making a complete policy document. Still, if there is one policy change I could make, it would be making Carbon Footprint Reduction compulsory as filing your GST or IT and the same has to be registered Carbon Credits certified by Bharat-based registries. Till such time this entire ecosystem is not complete, our Net-Zero dream will take time. I am optimistic enough to hope it will happen soon, very soon.
