Alakh Pandey becomes richer than Shah Rukh Khan after PhysicsWallah’s big jump

New Delhi: Alakh Pandey, the well-known face behind PhysicsWallah, has become one of the fastest-rising names in India’s startup world. According to the latest Hurun India Rich List, his net worth jumped by an incredible 223%, taking it to around ₹14,510 crore. This means the PhysicsWallah founder is now richer than Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, a fact that has grabbed everyone’s attention.

What makes this story even more interesting is that PhysicsWallah is still a loss-making company. Despite that, its valuation and Pandey’s personal wealth have gone up sharply, mainly because of strong business growth and upcoming plans for the company’s IPO.

In the last financial year, PhysicsWallah’s net loss narrowed to ₹243 crore, compared to a much bigger loss the previous year. But at the same time, the company’s total income increased to ₹2,886 crore from about ₹1,940 crore earlier. These numbers clearly show that the company’s revenue is growing faster, and the management is also trying to control expenses.

Now, PhysicsWallah is preparing for its Initial Public Offering (IPO). Reports suggest the company plans to raise around ₹3,820 crore from the stock market. Out of this, ₹3,100 crore will come through fresh shares, while the remaining ₹720 crore will be through an offer for sale (OFS), where some existing shareholders, including promoters, may sell a small portion of their holdings.

Both Alakh Pandey and Prateek Maheshwari, the co-founders of PhysicsWallah, are expected to sell shares worth nearly ₹360 crore each in the IPO. Several top investment banks have been brought on board to handle the issue and guide the company through the listing process.

For those who have followed Alakh Pandey’s journey, this is a truly inspiring moment. He started his career as a YouTube teacher, posting free lessons to help students who couldn’t afford expensive coaching. Over time, his honest teaching style and clear explanations helped him build a massive student following. What began as a simple YouTube channel turned into a unicorn edtech company that now offers courses across various subjects and exams.

This incredible journey from a small online classroom to the rich list shows how education and technology together can create huge opportunities in India. Even though the company is still working towards profitability, investors seem confident about its long-term potential, especially with the growth in India’s online learning market.

However, the rise in valuation also brings new challenges. PhysicsWallah will soon have to prove that its business model is strong enough to sustain profits after listing. In simple words, the company now faces a new kind of exam — not in classrooms, but in the stock market.

Still, Alakh Pandey’s story is more than just about money. It reflects the power of passion and persistence. From teaching physics in front of a camera to building a billion-dollar company, his journey is a perfect example of how dreams can become reality if you truly believe in them.

It’s also a reminder of how times have changed. A decade ago, no one would have imagined that a YouTuber-turned-teacher could be richer than one of India’s biggest film stars. But that’s the beauty of India’s startup era — talent and innovation can now take you places where fame once ruled.

In the end, Alakh Pandey’s rise shows that education is still one of the most powerful tools to change not only students’ lives but also the lives of those who teach them. And while Shah Rukh Khan rules the screen, Alakh Pandey seems to be ruling the classroom, and now, the rich list too.
