New Delhi: Recently we all heard that PM Modi attended the SCO Summit. PM Modi talked about the conflicts and tensions in West Asia and Ukraine. PM Modi said that these conflicts are harm to humanity and global stability. PM Modi called for the end of confrontation in both regions.
PM Modi also met with the Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and the Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. These meetings took place against the backdrop of tensions, in West Asia and the ongoing Russia‑Ukraine conflict.
Modi spoke about the rising tensions in West Asia during his meetings with Pezeshkian. Modi said that every kind of dispute should be settled by discussion and diplomacy not by using guns. India also stressed the importance of peace and stability in the region, for development.
The safety of civilians and commercial shipping was one of the topics of discussion. Modi said that citizens, civilian infrastructure, ships and seafarers should never be targeted under any circumstance. India also highlighted the importance of keeping trade and shipping channels open including the Strait of Hormuz as maritime routes.
The economy and strategy is also closely related to India’s robust demand for peace. West Asia’s prolonged confrontation may impact energy supplies, shipping routes and international trade. India has close economic relations with countries in the area and relies heavily on peaceful energy and trade routes.
In addition, during the SCO Summit, Modi also had a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, urging his shift away from an “endless war” to the end of the conflict in Ukraine. Modi emphasized that war is a loss to humanity every day and peace is critical to the world progressing.
India has consistently held its position that any kind of confrontation should be resolved through dialogue and not with guns and missiles. Modi’s statement at the SCO Summit echoed the same, that war should not be a permanent solution and diplomatic efforts will continue to bring lasting peace.
These confrontations not only affect India humanitarians, but also for India, it impacts global trade, energy security and economic growth.
