Gandhinagar: Giving a new direction to Gujarat’s industrial and modern infrastructure development, the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference (VGRC) – South Gujarat is going to be organized at Auro University in Surat on 1st and 2nd May 2026. This conference will focus on the state’s progress and investment opportunities in sectors like infrastructure, transportation and modern technology.
Under the visionary guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s first high-speed rail project is currently going to be realized between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. As we are moving towards making our country self-reliant, efforts have also been started so that in future high-speed trains will also be made in India. Moving in this direction, a single tender (tender to a single designated company) has been issued by the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai High Speed Rail Project to BEML Limited, a company under the Ministry of Defence of India, for the design, production, testing, maintenance and related work of the train.
This single tender has been issued by NHSRCL on 28 February 2026 to M/s BEML Limited, which is a company listed in Schedule ‘A’ under the Ministry of Defence of the Government of India. This company provides machinery manufacturing and important services in the defence, railway, energy, mining and infrastructure sectors. According to this tender, the company will have to carry out the work of designing the high-speed train, manufacturing it, testing it, commissioning it (making the train fully ready for operation) and long-term maintenance. These efforts have been initiated in line with the futuristic vision of building indigenous high-speed trains in India.
508 km high-speed rail corridor between Ahmedabad-Mumbai
India’s first bullet train project between Ahmedabad and Mumbai is being realized. A 508 km rail corridor is being built for this, out of which 352 km will be in Gujarat and Dadra-Nagar Haveli and 156 km in Maharashtra. There will be 12 stations on the route of this train, including Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, Vapi, Boisar, Virar, Thane and Mumbai.
Announcement of construction of 7 new high-speed rail corridors in the country
Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman has announced the construction of 7 high-speed rail corridors in the Union Budget 2026-27 to give a new shape to railway connectivity. These include Mumbai to Pune, Pune to Hyderabad, Hyderabad to Bengaluru, Hyderabad to Chennai, Chennai to Bengaluru, Delhi to Varanasi and Varanasi to Siliguri corridors. The construction of these corridors will increase the connectivity of North and East India as well as South India and West India. According to the Finance Minister, this decision has been taken to promote an environment-friendly sustainable passenger system which will increase connectivity between cities and accelerate their development.
