TEFC Roadshow in Surat to Boost Textile Exports and Support MSMEs

Surat: The Textiles Committee under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, in collaboration with The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) organised a road show and stakeholders consultation meeting on the Textile Export Facilitation Centre (TEFC).

J.D. Burman, Director, Textiles Committee, delivered the welcome address and welcomed the dignitaries and participants present. He said that Surat is one of the leading textile hubs of the country, which has a strong identity especially in the field of manmade fibre textiles, weaving, processing and garment manufacturing. Due to the innovation, entrepreneurship and continuous efforts of the industrialists, Surat has developed into a globally recognized textile cluster.

Giving information about the Textile Export Facilitation Center, Secretary of the Textiles Committee, Karthikeya Dhandha said that this center has been established to promote textile exports and provide guidance to exporters. This center will provide guidance on matters like export process, documentation, certification, regulatory compliance and market intelligence. Especially for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), this center will help in understanding the rules of international trade, increasing readiness for exports and increasing competitiveness in the global market.

Joint Director of the Textiles Committee, R. Chandran gave a detailed presentation on the Textile Export Facilitation Center. He said that this centre will provide single window guidance for export related requirements, help manufacturers to become exporters, spread awareness about free trade agreements and assist the government in giving industry-based policy suggestions.

Nikhil Madrasi, President, SGCCI  said that there is a need to strengthen institutional support for exporters from Surat and Surat makes a significant contribution to India’s textile economy.

Vrinda Desai (IRS), Textile Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, as the chief guest of the programme, said that Surat is important in India’s textile ecosystem and it is essential to strengthen export-focused support mechanisms to increase India’s competitiveness in the global market. He further said that the Textile Export Facilitation Centre will become an important institutional platform to guide exporters in the complexities of global trade.

Shalin Toshniwal, Chairman, Manmade and Technical Textiles Export Promotion Council (MATEXIL), highlighted the growing opportunities for exports of India’s manmade fibres and technical textiles and highlighted the importance of awareness and capacity building programmes for exporters.

An interactive consultation session was also held with industrialists and exporters in the program, in which they presented their views, expectations and suggestions to the officials of the Textiles Committee and the Ministry of Textiles.
