Surat: The trade and industries in Surat and south Gujarat have unanimously demanded that the relief scheme like Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) implemented by the Central Government during the Covid period should be re-implemented keeping in mind the current situation in the Middle East.
A delegation led by president of Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) Nikhil Madrasi met Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar and made detailed representation on various important issues concerning the industry.
Madrasi while presenting said that the relief scheme like Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) implemented by the Central Government during the Covid period should be re-implemented keeping in mind the current situation in the Middle East. In addition, it was also requested that collateral free loans with a moratorium of six months be made available to the industrialists.
It was also proposed to remove the uncertainty arising in gas supply due to the ongoing situation in the Middle East and to make the gas distribution system faster and more efficient. SGCCI said that the situation is worrying for the industry as the workers are leaving Surat and going to their hometowns due to gas shortage. It was demanded to speed up the gas supply system with immediate effect to prevent the migration of workers.
In order to prevent the recent chaos at Udhna railway station due to lack of advance planning and adequate arrangements, the Gujarat government, in coordination with the Ministry of Railways, has proposed to run more trains to bring the workers back to Surat with a well-organized plan. Due to the current situation, it is extremely necessary to bring the workers who have left Surat and returned to their homeland back to Surat.
In addition, an important presentation was also made to the Chief Minister to immediately appoint a developer for the PM Mitra Park to be established near Surat and make the project operational as soon as possible. The development work of PM Mitra Park is progressing at a rapid pace in other states of the country. Surat, which is known as the leading textile hub of the country and despite Surat having strong infrastructure, skilled manpower and a developed textile ecosystem, the delay in this ambitious project has created an atmosphere of disappointment among the industrialists. Therefore, the Chamber strongly submitted to the Chief Minister that the state government should give priority to this project and appoint a developer immediately and speed up the development process, so that Surat can further strengthen its prominent position in the textile sector in the country and the world.
The Chief Minister listened calmly to all the representations made by the Chamber of Commerce and assured that necessary steps would be taken to properly resolve the issues of the industry.
The Chief Minister sought the cooperation of the Chamber to involve more and more industrialists in the Vibrant Gujarat program in Surat. In this regard, the Chamber assured to provide full cooperation and encourage more and more industrialists to join the program.
