Surat: Drawing a distinction between the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) and the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) in Mumbai, deputy chief minister did not mined any words to state that, “It took 15 years for the BDB to operate at full-scale, while Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) did it in just two years”.
Sanghavi was speaking at his felicitation event organised by the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) committee due to his constant efforts to convince the diamond traders and diamond company owners to shift their trading operations from the traditional markets of Mahidharpura and Varachha to the new address at SDB.
Harsh Sanghavi said, ‘This is the largest office building in the world. When you set out to do a big job, many people come who drag their feet. We have to move forward by forgetting such people. With the current war situation, we now have an opportunity to make Surat Diamond Bourse, a trading hub for rough.’
“A business worth Rs 500 crore has been received in the tendering of rough diamonds. There is no competition with Bharat Diamond Bourse, one brother will work from there and one brother will work from Surat. Together we have to move forward. In the BDB, 5 offices were opened in 15 years, in the SDB in a short period of just 2 years, more than 250 offices were opened. By this date next year, about 1000 offices will be operational. Along with natural diamonds, the SDB will also become a world’s trading hub for lab-grown diamonds” said Sanghavi.
Surat Diamond Bourse Chairman Govind Dholakia said, ‘About six months ago we went to Harshbhai and said, offices are not yet opened, now you have to take up the work. Harshbhai said, I will take up the work. However, politicians do not do what they say, but Harshbhai took up the work and he has done it. Sachchidanand Swami has said that if a person does good work and the society does not respect him, he is called a bad person, so we have organized a ceremony to honor him.”
GJEPC Chairman Kirit Bhansali said, ‘Surat will benefit due to the situation that has happened in Dubai. Now companies are also auctioning rough in Surat. There is a demand for jewellery worth $113 billion in the world, of which India’s share is only 8 percent. India still has 92 percent of the opportunity. Like Dubai, the Diamond Bourse will also become a trading hub for rough diamonds.’
Mukesh Patel, owner of Green Lab Diamond, said, ‘Just as natural diamond offices are starting in the Bourse, now lab-grown diamond offices will also start in Surat. We will hold a meeting with lab-grown traders and bring them here and the Surat Diamond Bourse will also become a hub for lab-grown diamonds.’
