Surat: The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (SGCCI) delegation including the former President of the Chamber and Chairman of the Chamber’s Textile Task Force, met the Textile Commissioner of India, Vrinda Manohar Desai (IRS) in Mumbai and made a presentation on various important issues.
The delegation of the SGCCI submitted that the Government of India has recently announced an Integrated Program for the Labor Intensive Textile Sector in the Budget, in which it has talked about providing capital support for technology upgradation to the traditional textile cluster. The Chamber delegation told the Textile Commissioner that a new TTDS (Textile Technology Development Scheme) scheme or A-Tuff scheme should be given under this scheme.
The Government of India has announced Textile Eco Initiatives, under which the Chamber delegation also demanded a special fund and scheme for Sustainable Manufacturing Practices and Water Management (CETP) sector for big textile clusters like Surat.
It was proposed to make efforts to move forward the construction process on an immediate basis so that the activities of PM Mitra Park allotted near Navsari near Surat increase.
In addition, the Chamber delegation also demanded the establishment of a Common Facility Center at the Chamber to improve the quality of products in a large textile cluster like Surat, increase the production of MMF and improve performance in the export market.
Textile Commissioner Vrinda Desai listened calmly to the detailed presentations made by the Chamber delegation to the Textile Commissioner on various issues and gave a very positive response. She said that the government gives priority to the interests of the industry and is committed to providing all necessary cooperation for the development of the textile sector.
The Textile Commissioner further said that appropriate decisions will be taken after considering the issues presented by the Chamber and coordinating with the relevant departments. Focus is being placed on new policies, technology upgradation and export promotion to make the textile sector globally competitive. In the end, he expressed his desire to work cooperatively by maintaining continuous dialogue with the Chamber and industrialists.
Textile Commissioner to visit Surat industries for two days
SGCCI vice-president Ashok Jirawala said that Textile Commissioner Vrinda Desai was invited by the Chamber to visit Surat on February 25 and 26, which she gladly accepted. The Textile Commissioner will visit Surat industries for two days and listen to various issues of the industry. He expressed his desire to visit every segment of the industry face to face.
