New Delhi: On Monday, Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi asserted that it was an “established fact” that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar had filled ammunition of Form 6 illegally and unilaterally. On the social media platform, X, which was formerly known as Twitter, he has leveled allegations of abusing position against Kumar to benefit the BJP and said everyone involved will be held accountable. The post didn’t state what new evidence was found.
New voters are registered on Form 6. Last week, Gandhi had requested the Election Commission how the online application was changed and by whom and whether that was forced upon the company.
It is now established beyond doubt that Gyanesh Kumar changed Form 6 illegally and unilaterally.
This is just one more proof of him abusing his position to help the BJP.
He and everyone else involved in this criminal assault on our democracy will be held accountable. https://t.co/a33eJdPetu

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh has mentioned the following violations: The online form was altered without any official notification in early July; The ECI has no say in changing Form 6; The Registration of Electors Rules, 1960 were not amended. Ramesh also asked the Supreme Court to take suo motu cognisance of the matter.
In the middle is an additional statement. Congress questions applicants on whether their parents or grandparents were among the previous Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Congress claims that it would be more challenging for first-time voters to register. Applicants are not allowed to complete the application online before the application form is completed. Ramesh has claimed that the move was to clear the younger voters from the voters’ register but has provided no other proof.
The charge is rejected by the Election Commission. The requirement is not contained in Form 6 itself, officials say, but rather in instructions and an ancillary declaration called Annexure D and additional declaration.
It is not just Congress that is under scrutiny. Former chief electoral officer Teeka Ram Meena on Wednesday asked Kumar to resign if he has lost the public trust for unilaterally altering the format of Form 6.
These accusations have been rejected by the BJP. Party leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar branded Gandhi as a “pre-eminent fraudster”, accusing him of feeding into “misinformation” and said Kumar was a BJP agent and gave “falsehoods” on Wednesday.
The INDIA bloc has asked for Kumar to resign and demanded that future elections be conducted on ballot papers, and announced “save democracy” marches in all districts.
