New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been called the UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the phone call to discuss the intensive and escalating tensions in West Asia. In that phone call, PM Modi has conveyed his eid wishes to the UAE leader and the two discussed the prevailing situation in the region.
PM Modi has again voiced the strong objections to the attacks on the UAE, which has been resulted in the loss of innocent lives and damage to the buildings and other civilian property. He has also affirmed India’s steadfast support for the UAE in these challenging times.
Much of the discussion has aimed on the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow but the important body of water that serves as a vital passage for the oil exports around the world. The leaders agreed to the significance of maintaining this route open and navigable without issues. The focus of the talk was largely on regional stability and maintaining the security of sea trade routes amid increasing tensions in the region, such as concerns over attacks against civilian areas and deterioration of the situation in the region.
Modi also said the two countries will continue their cooperation in supporting efforts towards restoring peace, security and stability in the region.
The two leaders have already discussed the crisis a number of times. During a previous call, the PM had also harshly spoken out against attacks on UAE, expressed distress over loss of life and thanked the UAE President for his care for the Indian nationals residing there. India is a firm supporter of efforts towards resolving the situation and promoting enduring peace in the area,” he added.
In sharing some of the details of the call, Modi addressed the UAE President as his “brother”, a tribute to the personal relationship the two leaders have cultivated over the years which has helped advance the ties between the two countries.
India and UAE have a close relationship in terms of trade, energy, defence and welfare of the large Indian community residing in the UAE. As the turmoil in West Asia continues, such calls are more likely to be heard both because both governments seek to advance their common agendas and to promote peace in the region.
