This is the second large-scale destruction drive after authorities destroyed drugs worth ₹875 crore in Lakadia, Kutch. The drugs seized consisted of a stockpile of almost 390 kg and 9,000 liters of narcotics, seized under various cases from police stations across Gandhidham, Bhuj and Morbi.
Authorities in Gujarat have been acting tough on the illegal drug trade in recent months, where repeated instances of drug trafficking have been reported, with Gujarat’s ports acting as a transit point for drugs destined for North India.
In other news, Gujarat ATS busted an illegal drug factory in Chala, on the outskirts of Vapi. The kingpin was a history sheeter who had jumped bail and was running the operations for several months.
Enforcement agencies have ramped up efforts to curb narcotic trading and manufacturing, even as criminals are increasingly using sophisticated methods to evade the law and continue operations.
