IndiGo makes historic first landing at Noida International Airport in Jewar

New Delhi: India’s ongoing construction project, the ASL airport Noida Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, has officially opened for commercial flights on Monday. The Noida airport at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh, being constructed by the ASL, has officially begun commercial flight operations on Monday. IndiGo aviation took to the sky with their first commercial air passenger flight at the airport, thus making the airport the newest among the other air hubs of National Capital Region (NCR) of India.

Early in the morning, the inaugural IndiGo flight arrived from Lucknow, marking the first scheduled passenger service to arrive at the airport. It departed from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, Lucknow and landed at the Jewar airport around 7.55 am. All flights after the above and out of Noida/Lucknow will be delayed.

The operations of the airport have continued to be delayed for months since it was opened earlier this year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It has been regarded as one of the highest-profile infrastructural projects, which would improve connectivity through air transportation in Western Uttar Pradesh and would also ease the congestion at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.

The airport, meantime, will become a hub for domestic airlines to operate, with IndiGo being the first airline to commence its operations from the new terminal, which will generate traffic on the new terminal to 16 cities and states in the country. This growing network originated in Lucknow. There are talks for the launch of other airlines like Akasa Air and Air India Express from the airport as well.

With the opening of Noida International Airport, economic growth, tourism, trade and employment in the area will bring the region rich of sound growth. The officials believe the airport is going to play a pivotal role in further intensifying the connectivity of traveling and conducting business in Uttar Pradesh and neighboring states.

The airport project is another development event of significance to the community. Together with this flight, approximately 170 farmers who donated land for the airport at Jewar area were on board. They were very proud of being involved with the project.

Commercial operations have begun but there is still an issue concerning the transport. The airport has not yet been linked with the metro, and many people go from the airport by private car/bus, or taxi. Recently, the Government of Uttar Pradesh has launched electric buses for better last-mile connectivity in the vicinity of the airport.

It is the first-ever passenger flight of the airport and highlights how successful the Indian aviation network has been in integrating Noida airport. Plans are on the horizon to increase domestic and international travel on the airport once more.
