New Delhi: Recently, Indian Railways has officially approved four major projects worth around Rs 800 crore to improve the railway safety, increase freight capacity, modernise signalling systems and update passenger facilities across the different parts of the country. One of the main approvals is the development of Kavach Version 4.0 on the remaining 712 Route Kilometers (Rkm) of the Moradabad Division under Nothern Railway. This project has been approved at the cost of Rs 170 crore. Kavach is India’s indigenous Automatic Train Protection system, which is specially designed to improve train safety.
It can also help to prevent trains from passing signals at danger, control speed in critical situations and apply breaks automatically when required. Indian Railways has also approved another Rs 272 crore bypass line between Adra end and Joychandipahar in South Eastern Railway. Proposed 11km bypass will going to offer a separate route for freight trains and help reduce congestion and delays.
This project is likely to support the movement of growing industrial traffic, by including freight linked to the steel, coal and cement sectors. It is likely to improve the overall efficiency of freight operations in the corridor. Another major approval going to cover the installation of Electronic Interlocking at 21 stations in Samastipur Division of East Central Railway. This project will going to cost around Rs 233 crore. By existing panel interlocking systems will going to be replaced with modern computer-based electronic interlocking.
This latest system is likely to improve signalling reliability, make fault detection easier and support the implementation of Kavach. In Gujarat, Indian Railways has sanctioned the Bhavnagar Para Yard Remodeling project at cost around Rs 125 crore. This project focus to reduce congestion at Bhavnagar Terminus by moving several train stabling and operational activities to Bhavnagar Para. It will going to include latest loop lines, a high-level passenger platform, platform widening, Foot Over Bridges, Road Under Bridges and other signalling and electrical works.
These four projects reflect Indian Railways aims on better safety, modern signalling, smoother freight movement and improved passenger facilities. These projects are likely to strengthen railway infrastructure and help to offer more efficient and reliable train operations across the affected regions.
