New Delhi: Sometimes, even a small mistake can cause a lot of stress, especially during something as important as board exams. That’s exactly what happened with a Class 10th student from Gujarat named Akiksha Parmar, her story is both scary and inspiring, and it shows how quick action, a bit of luck, and the truth can turn things around.
On May 8, like many of us would, Akiksha Parmar excitedly checked her GSEB Class 10 result. But what she saw was unbelievable, she had failed! Not because she did badly in her exams, but because the system said she was absent for all her papers. Imagine studying for months, giving every exam, and then being told you weren’t even there.
Her father, Tirathsinh Parmar, was shocked too. He had personally dropped her off for each exam. Both of them knew something was wrong.
How can sitting on the wrong bench can change your result?
Turns out, on the very first day of the board exams, Akiksha arrived a little late to the centre, which was Adarsh Residential School. In her hurry, she sat at a bench meant for another student who didn’t attend any of the exams.
That might seem like a small mistake, but here’s the twist, she wrote down the seat number from that bench on all her answer sheets. So, the system thought she was absent, and the actual absentee was marked present, and even “passed”! Talk about a confusing switch!
Who found the truth and how did they fix it?
When Akiksha and her dad reported the issue, the school and district education officers got involved. The principal, K D Khant, checked the CCTV footage and saw that she had attended all her exams.
With proof like her hall ticket and the video, the school reported it to the Gujarat Board (GSEB). The DEO Anand Parmar also sent notices to six exam supervisors and the in-charge of the centre, asking how they allowed such a mix-up.
The good part? The board admitted the mistake and promised to correct it in the official records.
On May 15, something amazing happened. The Education Minister of Gujarat, Praful Pansheriya, personally handed Akiksha her corrected result, she had passed with 53.54%! He even congratulated her in front of others.
Akiksha was emotional and happy. She said, “Yes, it was my mistake to sit on the wrong bench and write the wrong seat number, but I’m glad it got solved.” It takes courage to accept your mistake and still smile through it.
Her father, who is a farmer, simply said he was relieved and hoped no other student would have to go through this stress.
Wait… What about the other student who was marked as passed’?
Another big surprise came out during the investigation. The student who was actually absent had somehow been shown as “passed” with 52%. Now the authorities are checking all such cases from that exam centre.
This mistake not only hurt one student, it showed that the system needs better checks to avoid such problems.
Can this happen to anyone?
Yes, this could happen to anyone. That’s the scariest part. But it’s also why stories like Akiksha’s matter. Because now, the education department has promised to be more careful in the future. The minister said they will improve supervision and make sure these mistakes don’t repeat.
Despite all this drama, Akiksha hasn’t given up. She now wants to become a teacher and work in tribal areas like her hometown. Her goal? To give students in such areas better education and support, something she knows the importance of from personal experience.
