DRI Seizes 16 Diamond Jewellery Parcels from SurSEZ Export Unit

Surat: The diamond and jewellery manufacturing units located in the Surat Special Economic Zone (SurSEZ) have once again come under scrutiny for irregularities running into crores of rupees. Recently, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) teams from Surat and Mumbai have seized about 16 parcels of diamond jewellery being exported to foreign countries from the jewellery manufacturing company based in SurSEZ.

The DRI team has seized jewellery worth crores of rupees being exported from Sachin. Currently, the valuation of this diamond jewellery is pending, and the officials are refusing to say anything officially.

It is being reported that a total of 16 parcels have been seized. Officials said that the owners of the diamond jewellery manufacturing company in SurSEZ were importing polished diamonds from Surat and that the diamond jewellery manufactured in the unit was exported to foreign countries.

However, the DRI suspected that there was a huge irregularity in the export business carried out by the diamond jewellery company based in SurSEZ. The DRI team members organised a watch for about four days on the movement of valuable jewellery from the SurSEZ. The Mumbai DRI team also joined the operation.

According to information given by DRI sources, a unit is operating from Sachin to import diamonds and manufacture diamond  jewellery and export them. This firm used to order polished diamonds from Hong Kong and export them directly after making jewellery.

However, there was information that there was some irregularity in this work. Based on which the DRI team stopped the entire parcel and started a detailed investigation. However, this parcel has been kept in custody for the last four days and the entire matter has also reached Delhi. According to the discussion, this parcel has been sent by Jayesh of Mumbai to a businessman named Girish of Surat.
