Ahmedabad: This year’s cyclone over the Indian Ocean, christened Cyclone Shakti, has weakened significantly over the Indian Ocean, according to an update by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The cyclone is expected to further diminish within the next 24-48 hours. According to weather expert Paresh Goswami, the cyclone was earlier moving towards Oman, but has changed its direction towards India and died down at sea.

The immediate danger for the same has receded, even as scattered rains are likely to occur in coastal talukas of Kutch- Naliya, Gandhdham, Mundra, Mandvi, Kandla, as well as coastal districts of Saurashtra including Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar and Gir Somnath. Light rain could also occur in areas bordering North Gujarat and Eastern Madhya Pradesh.
Fishermen are still advised not to venture into the sea, while citizens are advised not to panic. The storm was not going to make landfall anyways, even though strong winds between 68-88 kmph was forecast. Farmers, therefore, have been advised not to delay or disrupt their operations due to the weather, as only light showers could be expected. The weather is expected to be normal by October 9.
