New Delhi: The unusual Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has caught a new political wave. Activist Manish Brahmbhatt has announced to form Cockroach Janta Party-Democratic (CJP-D) to challenge the existing leadership of CJP, which is headed by Abhijeet Dipke.
On Thursday, September 3, Brahmbhatt announced the new political platform, which would be based on transparency, accountability and democratic decision making. He also engaged volunteers and citizens to be part of the new organisation through social media, WhatsApp and a “missed call” system.
The development follows when the CJP was in the limelight during student protests in Delhi. Brahmbhatt has stated the original movement was later “politicised”, and important decisions made without due consideration to protesters and volunteers. He also charged the group with “growing too close to political interests. These are allegation of Brahmbhatt and have not been independently confirmed.
The new platform needs to be a movement of the people and not solely a movement of a leader or political party,” said Brahmbhatt. Targeting the out-going team directly, he said that it was important to form a national team in a democratic manner instead of creating it by “Kejriwal’s team.
He extended his comment that “CJP-D will not be restricted to attacking any political party. The new platform would stand up against the issues of corruption and trouble in the political sphere, irrespective of party and government formation, Brahmbhatt said.
The most important now is whether CJP-D can gain momentum and be a viable political platform or just a small segment of the broader movement.
The launching has certainly generated a new talking point for CJP for now. The bizarre description, the straight challenge to the current power brokers and Brahmbhatt’s allegations suggest that the CJP-CJP-D tussle is likely to be in the news for the time being.
