Surat: A builder from Surat has gone to the Gujarat High Court to get a case registered for kidnapping, threats, and fraud against BJP Corporator Amit Singh Rajput, the husbands of two other BJP corporators, and Godara police inspector H.S. Acharya.
Pradip Gupta, who lives in Dindoli, filed a complaint on July 13 with Inspector H.S. Acharya, saying he was kidnapped from his office in Dindoli on July 12. Gupta claimed he was taken to Rajput’s office, where he was threatened and forced to sign eight cheques worth Rs 66.48 lakh.
The complaint names BJP Ward No. 26 Councillor Amit Singh Rajput, Bablu Rajput, and Mansukh Baldaniya, whose wives are BJP councillors. Gupta said the police did not act on his complaint.
On July 15, Gupta and his lawyer Vilas Patil met with Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut to request that his complaint be registered, but nothing happened. So, Gupta filed a petition with the Gujarat High Court on Thursday, which was accepted on Friday.
In his petition, Gupta asked the court to order the Surat police to file charges against the accused. The charges include cheating, kidnapping, criminal intimidation, extortion, criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and trespassing.
Vilas Patil, Gupta’s lawyer, told The Indian Express, “Our petition has been accepted in the Gujarat High Court, and a hearing may be scheduled next week.” Patil added, “Inspector H.S. Acharya is also accused of failing to register the case and recover the CCTV footage from Amit Singh Rajput’s office where Gupta was allegedly held, threatened, and forced to sign the cheques.”
During the hearing, they will submit the CCTV footage of the kidnapping to the Gujarat High Court.
Currently, Assistant Commissioner of Police (D division) V.M. Jadeja is investigating Gupta’s complaint following the orders of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Bhagirath Gadhvi.
