Surat: Surat in the realm of maternal and child healthcare, Dr. Garima Mehta has emerged as a leading voice in breastfeeding advocacy and lactation consultation. A dedicated pediatrician and lactation specialist, Dr. Mehta has played a crucial role in guiding mothers through their breastfeeding journey, ensuring that they receive the necessary support and resources to nurture their newborns successfully. Her outstanding commitment has earned her the esteemed position of Brand Ambassador for Gujarat in the National Campaign “Let’s Turn Our Hospitals Breastfeeding-Friendly” by the Breastfeeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI).
Dr. Garima Mehta embarked on her medical career by earning her M.B.B.S. from Government Medical College, Surat, Gujarat, in 2014. Her deep passion for children’s health led her to pursue an M.D. in Pediatrics from B.J. Medical College, Ahmedabad, in 2020. Furthering her dedication to critical pediatric care, she completed an IAP Fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children, Mumbai, in 2022.
Recognizing the vital role of breastfeeding in infant health, she completed a Lactation Consultant Course from the Breastfeeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI), equipping herself with the skills to support and empower new mothers in their breastfeeding journey.
Currently working as a senior Pediatrician & Lactation Consultant at Kilkaari Children’s Hospital & Lactation Center at Citylight area in Surat, she has worked in some of India’s most reputed hospitals inluding Medanta Medicity Hospital, Gurgaon, Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children, Mumbai, Civil Hospital, Surat.
One of Dr. Mehta’s most remarkable contributions is in the promotion of breastfeeding and lactation education. She has helped numerous mothers overcome breastfeeding challenges such as latching difficulties, low milk supply, and infant nutrition concerns. Through Kilkaari Children’s Hospital & Lactation Center, she provides one-on-one consultations, workshops, and awareness programs on the benefits of breastfeeding.
Her appointment as a Brand Ambassador for Gujarat in the BPNI National Campaign underscores her efforts in making hospitals more breastfeeding-friendly. She collaborates with healthcare professionals to implement breastfeeding-supportive policies and encourages institutions to create a mother-friendly environment.
“Breastfeeding is the first step to a healthy life for a child. My mission is to ensure every mother gets the support she needs to confidently nourish her baby,” says Dr. Mehta.
Dr. Mehta has made significant contributions to pediatric research and education.
Through her research, Dr. Mehta has helped refine diagnostic and treatment methods for common childhood diseases.
