GST 2.0 fosters double-digit growth in auto sales, sales up by 21% YoY

New Delhi: The Indian consumers have taken the government’s pre-Diwali GST gift a bit too seriously.  The reduction in GST rates helped boost auto sales,  with many ditching their indecisiveness to book their dream vehicles. Automakers, on their part, have also played their part, luring customers with attractive offers.

According to industry estimates, car sales have risen almost 21% year on year, with up to 4,25,000 cars sold in November 2025.

Maruti Suzuki sold almost 1,70,971 units, a rise of 21% from the last month, helping it reduce its inventory.

“Our sales last month is the highest-ever we have seen for the month of November in the last 40 years. Our retail sales rose by 31%. For 8 of our models, we have no vehicles for dispatch in our factories.” Partho Banerjee, senior executive officer, marketing and sales at Maruti Suzuki said.

While sales of small cars (taxed at 18%) rose by 38%,  those of larger vehicles (taxed at 40%) rose by 17% in the same period.

At the same time, homegrown auto majors Tata Motors and Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) also reported strong sales, growing volumes at 22% each, although Hyundai reported a slightly lower growth in November at 4.3%.

Two wheeler makers too cheered the rise in sales. Honda Motorcycle reported a growth of 23.3% to sell 5,33,645 units in November, while TVS Motor grew its sales by 20% and premium motorcycle brand Royal Enfield sold 25% more units in November.

Even commercial vehicles saw a rise in units sold, with Tata Motors selling 32,753 units in November, a 25% increase and Ashok Leyland selling 16,691 units during the same period.
