Geopolitical Uncertainty Pushes Investors to Safe Havens; Bitcoin Slips as Risk Appetite Weakens

Mumbai: This week, rising geopolitical macroeconomic uncertainty has determined the course of global markets. At the World Economic Forum in Davos, leaders said that the world is about to enter a period of power dynamics. On the other hand, economists have described rising debt levels and geopolitical tensions as the biggest obstacles to growth.

“Investors have continued to invest in safe haven assets, due to which gold and silver have reached record levels”, said Nischal Shetty, founder of WazirX.

On the other hand, volatility was also seen in the crypto market. Whenever the macroeconomic situation is not right and there is uncertainty about liquidity, it decreases. Bitcoin fell to around $ 44,000. On the other hand, Ethereum and altcoins also saw a decrease. Despite the short-term price pressure, the long-term picture remains constructive as institutional interest continues through crypto IPOs, ETFs, etc., which has been the case since the beginning of the year.

Asset conglomeration and interlinking is increasing where crypto is integrated with gold, silver, etc.Crypto volume in India reflected retail trading behavior during an uncertain market this week.

The lack of any solid direction as well as increased global risk has traders refraining from betting for the long term and instead choosing to focus on short-term price movements. Traders are looking towards a limited group of stablecoins, established layer-1 networks like ADA, and high-liquidity memecoins like DOGE and PEPE. This shows a preference for maturity and clear price ranges.

Bitcoin’s dominance over altcoins may increase. According to market experts, in the short term, traders will focus more on managing risk, and at the same time, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin are likely to increase their dominance over altcoins due to the prevailing geopolitical uncertainty in the medium term.
