Mumbai: Shares of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) dipped over 3% today, as the markets reacted to the closure of its ₹3,500 crore Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP), which saw robust demand from major institutional investors. The fundraise saw the company attract bids exceeding Rs.10,800 crore, getting oversubscribed 3.1 times.
Key participants included SBI Mutual Fund, ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund, Tata Mutual Fund, HSBC Mutual Fund and insurers like ICICI Prudential Life Insurance and SBI Life Insurance. Besides this, FIIs and family offices like Premji Invest and Manulife also participated in the QIP.
As per SEBI regulations, AESL could have expanded its QIP based on popular demand, using the green shoe (upsize) option, but the company chose not to do so. Nevertheless, the company will be issuing about 21.7 million equity shares through this QIP.

Market Reaction
AESL shares traded lower on the stock exchanges, falling as much as 3.4% during intraday trade to a low of ₹1,644.60 on the BSE, despite strong institutional backing.
Though such price adjustments remain common following a QIP launch, the final issue price represents a 5.18% discount to the previous day’s close of Rs.1,703.
Use of Funds
With the proceeds, AESL will be strengthening its balance sheet by repaying its debt, investing in infrastructure expansion and exploring strategic acquisitions, besides other corporate uses. This tranche represents the company’s planned Rs.10,000 crore equity raise.
