Long-dormant Bitcoin accounts’ sudden transactions send the market into a tizzy

From being practically worthless post-launch to being valued more than the GDP of countries like Italy or India, this limited quantity, Bitcoin has come a long way. For those who believed in it years ago and are looking to monetise their investments only now, this remains a great opportunity like no other.

The reason?

Almost 95% of all the Bitcoins in existence are already mined. As of August 2025, almost 19.91 million Bitcoin out of the total 21 million Bitcoin are already mined, with almost 3.125 Bitcoin being mined every 10 minutes. In comparison, gold, another finite resource, can still be mined and is being mined. On the other hand, Bitcoin’s supply isn’t going to be increased.

Low supply, high demand

According to market analyst firms, a Bitcoin wallet that was idle for almost 12 years has suddenly transferred 400 BTC, worth approximately $44 million, to new addresses, creating a buzz like no other. The transactions were fragmented into batches of about 15 BTC each and transferred to several addresses.

Though the identity of the wallet owner remains unknown, this move has created a short-term volatility in the market, even as most Bitcoins are now being held as investments with transaction volumes remaining low.

With mining Bitcoin becoming increasingly unviable, most investors are now focusing their attention on the 20% of the Bitcoin that is lost or inaccessible, just as in this case.

Bitcoin’s value has already reached $116,000, and experts are expecting this to increase further in the future. Such unpredictable surprises could come again, but that again, is another unpredictable development. Till then, prices will rise and resourceful bulls will try their best to hoard as many Bitcoins as possible.
