RBI appoints Muneesh Kapur as executive director

New Delhi: Muneesh Kapur will begin serving as Executive Director (ED) on October 3, 2023, according to a statement released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Wednesday. The Department of Economic and Policy Research will be under his direction as executive director.

Kapur previously held the positions of adviser-in-charge of the monetary policy department and secretary to the monetary policy committee.

According to a statement from the RBI, Kapur has spent nearly three decades working in the departments of economic policy and research and monetary policy and has mostly focused on macroeconomic policy and research.

He will oversee the Department of Economic and Policy Research in his capacity as executive director.

In addition, from 2012 to 2015, Kapur assisted the executive director of the International Monetary Fund as an advisor. He is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB) and has a Master’s degree in Economics.

The Annual Report and the Report on Trend and Progress of Banking in India are two statutory publications of the Reserve Bank that are published by the Department of Economic and Policy Research.

State Finances: A Study of Budgets, the Reserve Bank of India Bulletin, the Handbook of Statistics on Indian States, and RBI Occasional Papers are some of the department’s other publications. The department also produces The History of the Reserve Bank.

Additionally, the department provides a source of original data on monetary aggregates, the balance of payments, foreign debt, the flow of money, savings rates, and state finances. Through print and electronic media, it has been playing a significant part in the transmission of long-time series data on a variety of macroeconomic factors.
