New Delhi: Pavan Davuluri, an IIT Madras alumnus, has been appointed by Microsoft to head its Windows and Surface divisions, as reported. According to an internal memo from Rajesh Jha, Microsoft’s head of experiences and devices, Davuluri will lead the development of silicon systems for Microsoft’s Windows and Surface products, following the unexpected departure of Panos Panay last year.
Jha’s memo emphasizes the importance of this appointment in enabling a comprehensive approach to building silicon, systems, experiences, and devices that align with the demands of the AI era.
Additionally, the memo reveals that Mikhail Parakhin will head a new team focusing on Windows and web experiences. Parakhin, previously the CEO of advertising and web services at Microsoft, brings experience from his work on Bing and the Edge browser.
Davuluri, with over 23 years of experience at Microsoft, began his career as a Reliability Component Manager in 2001 after graduating from IIT Madras and later obtaining a Master of Science degree from the University of Maryland in 1999. He has held various leadership positions within Microsoft, including roles in PC and Xbox hardware, Surface, and Windows.
In his most recent role as corporate vice president, Davuluri oversaw Windows Silicon and Systems Integration. His new role will see him leading a dedicated team focused on developing silicon systems for Microsoft’s Windows and Surface products.
