New Delhi: Suzlon Group announced on Wednesday that it had secured a contract to develop a 50.4 MW wind power project for Green Infra Wind Energy Ltd., a subsidiary of Sembcorp’s renewables business. The project, located in Karnataka, will comprise 24 wind turbine generators (WTGs) with a Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) tower and a rated capacity of 2.1 MW each. Suzlon will be responsible for supplying the wind turbines and executing the project, including erection and commissioning, as well as providing comprehensive operation and maintenance services after commissioning. The project is expected to be commissioned in 2024.

Suzlon’s partnership with Sembcorp is part of the bid won by Railway Energy Management Company Limited (REMCL) by Sembcorp. By assisting Indian Railways to become a net-zero carbon emitter by the end of this decade, Suzlon and Sembcorp are contributing to a sustainable India. JP Chalasani, CEO of Suzlon Group, expressed his pride in the company’s ability to contribute to India’s fight against the climate emergency through a focus on renewable energy.

Sembcorp India is a leading renewables player, with generation assets across 13 states and a presence in 18 states. Its subsidiary, Sembcorp Green Infra, has a portfolio of more than 3 GW of wind and solar energy in India. With 28 years of experience in the wind energy market, Suzlon is well positioned to contribute to India’s renewable energy goals.

The development of the wind power project in Karnataka will have a positive impact on the environment by reducing carbon emissions. The use of wind power to generate electricity is a sustainable alternative to fossil fuel-based power generation, which is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Wind power is also a clean source of energy that does not produce air or water pollution or generate hazardous waste.

India has set an ambitious target of achieving 450 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. With its vast experience in the wind energy market, Suzlon is well positioned to contribute to achieving this goal. The company has been a significant player in India’s wind energy market since its inception in 1995 and has installed over 18 GW of wind energy capacity in India and around the world. Suzlon’s contribution to India’s renewable energy goals will have a significant impact on the country’s energy security, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.
