Reliance AGM 2026: Mukesh Ambani charts path towards Reliance Intelligence, next-gen green materials

Mumbai: At the highly anticipated 49th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), Chairman Mukesh Ambani unveiled his plans to further transform the conglomerate from a traditional energy and consumer platform to a manufacturing powerhouse for next-generation, high-value materials like carbon fibre, specialty materials, and green chemicals.

With the war in West Asia showing no signs of subsiding, Mukesh Ambani highlighted the importance of Aatmanirbharta for energy.

“We must intensify and speed up our efforts to make our country atma nirbhar in critical resources and technologies. Maximum energy self-sufficiency and AI self-sufficiency must become our national missions. The success of these missions is crucial to the success of Viksit Bharat,” he said in his speech at the AGM in Mumbai.

The shift from data provider to AI enabler

Mr Ambani made it clear that he doesn’t want to see Reliance as just a simple service provider; he wants to transform the group into an AI infrastructure powerhouse. This transformation rests on three pillars:

  • The Jio AI Platform: Reliance is embedding advanced machine learning algorithms across every layer of its operating business. This includes predicting consumer shopping habits at Reliance Retail to optimzing manufacturing yields at its Jamnagar oil refineries, JioBrain will be the collective digital central nervous system of the group.
  • National AI Infrastructure: RIL is also looking to build data center capacities in India, adding to its upcoming data centers in Jamnagar and Vizag. The company aims to provide end to end services spanning the entire lifecycle of the data center- from design and construction to utilities management, renewable power supplies, network connectivity and fully managed operational services.
  • Reliance Intelligence: The company is aiming to build an AI infrastructure for everyone, consumers, enterprises and governments. It aims to offer the infrastructure, platform and services for this partnership with Google, Meta, and Nvidia. After delivering broadband to every Indian through Reliance Jio, now Reliance Intelligence is promising to bring AI to everyone, everywhere.

From the Reliance on Oil to Next Gen Chemicals

Reliance’s flagship oil-to-chemicals business has been growing consistently with its revenues reaching Rs.6.62 lakh crore and an EBITDA growth of 10.1%. With the current challenges with oil disruptions, Reliance now aims to expand beyond oil into solar energy, battery technology, hydrogen and green fuels.

“India remains dependent on external energy sources for over 70% of our needs. This is not only costly, but it also makes India vulnerable to geopolitical instability,” Mr Ambani remarked,

“Reliance is working on the most comprehensive, integrated, and future-focused plan by any Indian corporate to boost India’s energy sources in every way possible. The singular aim is that India must produce almost all the energy it needs in abundance, in the most affordable and in most eco-friendly manner,” he added.

The company is looking at commissioning one of the world’s largest carbon fibre facilities in Hazira while working on its PVC and CPVC plant expansions, aiming to cut imports and boost PM Modi’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Reliance New Energy

Reliance aims to solve India’s challenge of ensuring affordable and sustainable energy sources with the construction of the world’s largest energy parks in Jamnagar, the 5,000 acre Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex which will integrate clean energy manufacturing ecosystems.

It will start with the first 40GWh BESS and Cell Giga Factory that will be eventually scaled up to 120 GWh capacity. This would make Reliance one of the world’s largest manufacturers of lithium iron phosphate batteries.

The Retail + Consumer Products ecosystem

After becoming a leading player in the retail ecosystem, Reliance is now looking to expand its presence by becoming a leading consumer brand through Reliance Retail and Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL). With its edge in distribution and inorganic growth, RCPL and Reliance Retail aim to expand its presence in the sector further. This strategy has been working so far, with its soft drink, consumer electronics acquisitions helping it expand deeper into the consumer brands ecosystem.

“What will separate Reliance Retail from every other retailer in the world is not just the scale of our data, but our ability to combine technology with a deep understanding of Indian consumers. In the decade ahead, Reliance Retail will not merely sell products. We will catalyse a sustainable, inclusive, and technologically advanced way of life for every Indian, contributing our fullest to the vision of a Viksit Bharat,” Mr Ambani announced.

Expanding in the right direction

For investors, Mukesh Ambani’s speech has shown how the company has been strengthening its position as one of India’s leading conglomerates through expansions in the right directions based on market demand.

“We have laid the foundation for Reliance to emerge as a leading deep-tech and advanced manufacturing company,” he said.

“This is how Reliance has emerged as India’s proud and most prized national business institution,” he added.
