New Delhi, August 28: India’s tablet market has grown 15% year on year in the first half of 2026, with the market preferring premium, higher spec tablets to complement productivity, education and content creation, a report by CyberMedia Research (CMR) said. Premium tablets now command 89% of the total market volume, even as manufacturers have raised prices due to supply chain constraints.
Higher memory tablets above ₹20,000 are being increasingly favoured, with shipments of 6GB RAM tablets growing by 73% YoY while 12GB variants surging by 422% YoY. Large screen tablets (above 10 inches) dominates the segment, accounting for almost 91% of total shipments.
Customers are increasingly favouring 5G-enabled tablets over legacy 4G ones, with 5G tablets growing by 8% YoY against a 19% YoY fall in 4G tablet shipments.
Amongst brands, Samsung has maintained its overall market lead, with a 34% share, while Apple continues to lead in the premium segment with a 23% market share. The newly launched Apple iPad Air 2026 series has alone added a 3% market share. Besides these, Lenovo has a 17% market share and Xiaomi ranks fourth with an 11% market share.
“The Indian tablet landscape is maturing, marked by a decisive shift toward higher-spec devices. Rising component costs, alongside consumer preference for larger screens, increased RAM, and robust Wi-Fi connectivity, are pushing average selling prices higher. Even as overall volume growth moderates, tablets remain deeply entrenched as companion devices for content creation, education, and enterprise productivity.” Menka Kumari, Senior Analyst, CyberMedia Research (CMR), said in a press release.
