New Delhi: Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), one of India’s leading automotive manufacturers, has been making significant strides in the agricultural industry. The company has recently acquired a 100% stake in M.I.T.R.A, an agri-tech startup that specializes in providing agronomy solutions to farmers.
M.I.T.R.A, which stands for Machine Intelligence Technologies and Rural Agriculture, was founded in 2018 by Dr. S. N. Singh, an IIT Delhi alumnus. The company has developed a range of technologies that enable farmers to make informed decisions about crop management, soil health, and irrigation. M.I.T.R.A’s products include crop health monitoring systems, soil testing kits, and weather stations.
The acquisition of M.I.T.R.A is a part of M&M’s strategy to expand its farm-business focus. M&M has been working to develop and promote sustainable farming practices in India. The company’s Farm Division has been providing farmers with a range of agricultural equipment, including tractors, harvesters, and sprayers.
By acquiring M.I.T.R.A, M&M gains access to a range of agronomy solutions that will help farmers increase their yields, reduce their costs, and improve their overall productivity. M.I.T.R.A’s technologies will complement M&M’s existing farm equipment and enable the company to provide end-to-end solutions to farmers.
Commenting on the acquisition, Ashok Sharma, President, Farm Equipment Sector, M&M, said, “The acquisition of M.I.T.R.A is in line with our vision to become a leading player in the agri-tech space. The combination of M&M’s expertise in farm equipment and M.I.T.R.A’s capabilities in agronomy will enable us to offer our customers a comprehensive range of solutions that will help them increase their productivity and profitability.”
Dr. S. N. Singh, the founder of M.I.T.R.A, added, “We are excited to join the M&M family and contribute to their vision of transforming agriculture in India. Our technologies are designed to empower farmers and enable them to make informed decisions about crop management. With M&M’s support, we believe we can make a significant impact on the agricultural sector in India.”
Overall, M&M’s acquisition of M.I.T.R.A is a significant step towards building a more sustainable and profitable agricultural sector in India. By combining their expertise in farm equipment and agronomy, M&M and M.I.T.R.A have the potential to revolutionize the way farmers manage their crops and increase their yields.
