LIC’s Q2 net profit rises 31% to Rs.10,098 crore, total income rises 4.4% to Rs. 2,39,614 crore

New Delhi: India’s largest life insurer, Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has posted a 31% year on year rise in net profit to Rs.10,098 crore for the September 2025 quarter compared to Rs.7,728 crore from the same period last year. During the same period, the insurer’s total income grew 4.4% to Rs.2,39,614 crore, mostly due to stronger returns and encouraging policy renewals.

However, the insurer’s profit has fallen 7.8% from Rs.10,957 crore in the previous June quarter, mostly due to subdued returns. Despite this,  LIC’s Assets Under Management (AUM) surged to an impressive ₹57,22,896 crore, up from ₹55,50,571 crore a year ago, all thanks to its dominant position as India’s most well-known, and well-respected public sector insurer.

“From a business perspective during the first half of this year (FY 2025-26), LIC has once again demonstrated the successful implementation of its strategy pertaining to both product and channel diversification that we have been pursuing since our listing,” R Doraiswamy, chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director of LIC said.

“While we expand our overall profitability through a diversified product mix and channel mix, we are also working towards optimising costs, and for H1 FY26 our overall expense ratio has decreased by 146 bps to 11.28%.”

“In terms of market share measured by first-year premium income, LIC continues to be the market leader in the Indian life insurance business with an overall market share of 59.41 per cent for the half year ended September 30, 2025,” he further added.
