Mumbai, August 6: Biopharmaceuticals major Biocon’s shares have risen more than 3% in early morning trades on Thursday, August 6, after it recorded a sharp 349% year on year rise in net profit to ₹141 crore for Q1 FY27, from ₹31.4 crore recorded last year. This rise has been attributed to strong execution in its biosimilars and generic segments, with its operating revenue expanding 10% YoY to ₹4,336 crore.
Improved profitability has helped the company’s Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA) to rise 10.6% to ₹847.2 crore from ₹766.1 crore during the same period last year, while its EBITDA margin has improved marginally to 19.54% for the quarter. Gross EBITDA has stood at ₹902 crore, with a margin of 21%, strengthened by enhanced profitability in the Biopharma business.
The company’s core biopharma segment has remained the primary growth engine, with a 17% YoY revenue expansion to ₹3,615 crore. During the quarter, Biocon has worked to reduce its debt, besides expanding its global commercial footprint in the US with the launch of its ophthalmology drug Yesafili earlier in August 2026.
“Biocon has entered FY27 with a clear focus on translating our strategic investments into sustainable growth and long-term value creation. A favourable policy environment for biosimilars, together with our expanded manufacturing capabilities in the US, reinforces our confidence in the long-term opportunities across North America, our biggest market,” Biocon’s Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw said.
