New Delhi Microsoft and Nvidia are placing a big bet on an AI company called Anthropic. They are collectively investing as much as 15 billion in the developer of the Claude family of AI models (Anthropic). In this transaction, Anthropic is also making a commitment of 30 billion dollars on the power of cloud computing with Microsoft Azure service.
With this deal, Anthropic will execute most of its AI operations on the Microsoft cloud servers. Meanwhile, Anthropic and Nvidia will collaborate with each other: Nvidia will assist in designing and optimizing the AI models in a way that would utilize its advanced chips in a more efficient way. It will enable Claude to operate faster and with more power on the newest hardware that is offered by Nvidia.
This is not just about money. According to Microsoft, this collaboration will bring Claude models nearer to its business clients. The most successful models of Anthropic such as Claude Sonnet, Claude Opus and Claude Haiku will be available on a dedicated Microsoft service that assists the businesses to integrate AI to their applications. In this agreement, the models developed by Anthropic might be applied more extensively in various cloud systems and result in a greater number of options among companies.
Microsoft is investing as much as 5 billion dollars and Nvidia is prepared to spend as much as 10 billion dollars on Anthropic on the financial side. Anthropic is, in turn, securing a huge order of the Azure compute power, which promises to purchase services up to 30 billion. It will also lease more compute capacity, to 1 gigawatt, which implies a scale of data-centre infrastructure which is very large.
This is a joint venture when the AI market is expanding at a rapid pace. Circular deals: Some concerns are raised by investors over circular deals: i.e. when firms invest in one another and at the same time take large acquisitions of each other. Other individuals believe that such transactions might inflate the AI market to appear more successful than it actually is, which raises the risk of an investment bubble.
Nevertheless, Anthropic has been increasing rapidly. Former employees of OpenAI have created it, and it has emerged to be a serious force in the world of AI. Many businesses are using its Claude models particularly in financial and health fields. Anthropic can be all the more significant in the world of AI with this new collaboration.
All the three companies leaders emphasized the fact that this deal was based on mutual support. Anthropic is viewed by Microsoft as one of its key partners, and Nvidia is eager to deploy the AI of Anthropic on its future chip. Instead, Anthropic will have a trusted and strong cloud collaborator, and additional funding to expand its business.
