Vir Das pays ₹50K for Air India seat, gets broken table and no wheelchair

New Delhi: Vir Das narrated an unsatisfactory Air India flight experience to the public. Both Vir Das and his spouse boarded flight AI816 at Mumbai airport bound for Delhi on April 14. During their flight landing his wife expected to have a wheelchair waiting yet services did not match the booking.

What went wrong?

Through social media Vir Das narrated multiple issues from their trip along with their treatment of his disabled spouse.

After his family paid ₹50000 for their plane tickets he noticed the aircraft had broken furniture and non-operational leg rests along with one faulty reclining seat but the most significant problem was the nonappearance of the promised wheelchair after landing in Delhi as das explained the cabin staff was unclear about the situation. The situation forced his wife to descend the plane steps unsupported despite her broke foot.

What did Air India say?

Regarding the situation Air India issued an apology through a formal statement. The airline staff apologized for the inadequate service and clarified that there was a service delay rather than a service denial of the wheelchair.

The company stated the wheelchair service missed its deadline because numerous passengers needed wheelchairs at once while staff numbers were insufficient during that time period. The crew participants offered help using an “ambulift” and additional assistance to the passenger but received no response from her.

Air India continued by stating their commitment to enhancing their assistance services for customers requiring additional assistance.

How things unfolded:

  1. Vir Das and his wife took Air India flight AI816 using their pre-arranged wheelchair services.
  2. Upon our arrival at Delhi the wheelchair service was not ready to provide due to crew unpreparedness.
  3. She needed to handle the staircase journey without assistance.
  4. Das expressed his outrage on social media which revealed his dissatisfaction with both the expenses of the flight along with his wife’s injury.
  5. The airline company Air India issued an official response which explained their delayed service stemmed from staffing shortages together with increased passenger load.

Reactions online:

Social media users rapidly spread news about this story. Users of social media demonstrated backing for Vir Das and his better half yet different groups blasted Air India for its inability to deliver appropriate service to those with disabilities. The airline’s apology received limited appreciation while many passengers found it did not adequately resolve the issue at hand.
