New Delhi: UPIs or mobile applications have turned out to be used by almost everyone in India to make payments. We get to pay by scanning a QR code whether it is a small chocolate at a kirana store or a large mobile phone. However, with the large population of online payments, bad people have also resorted to the internet to steal money. Due to increasing cases of online fraud the government and the reserve bank now subject the digital payment to a scanner. This implies that they are closely monitoring these apps to ensure that they are not unsafe.
Most of them have lamented that they have been given a fake message or even called and provided their PIN to someone they did not know thus losing all their money. Others were misled by counterfeit sites which resembled authentic sites. Due to these tales, the authorities are concerned. They would like the apps to be more secure. They are also requesting banks to educate people on how to use these apps without compromising. Should a company fail to observe the safety rules, he or she may even end up in a big problem or may even be fined.
Carefulness on our part is highly important. We must not give our OTP or PIN to anybody even when he claims to be calling on behalf of a bank. The government is doing its best to ensure that the system is strong, and we should be the smart users as well. Digital payments are extremely convenient and make our lives easy, although they do so only when used properly.
