New Delhi: Tesla stock fell this week as CEO Elon Musk confirmed that the company will delay its next electric vehicle model. The delay has been a surprise to many investors, who had anticipated the new EV would boost Tesla’s sales next year. However, instead the company needs some more time to enhance its capability for production and designing features.
Elon Musk also said the future car should be affordable, safe, and different from those already on offer. As he explained, Tesla is trying to reduce production costs, upgrade battery technology, and improve manufacturing lines. It is because of these challenges that the launch will happen later than planned.
The delay coincides with an increasingly fierce competition that Tesla faces from Chinese EV companies like BYD, NIO, and XPeng. Many of these firms offer less expensive electric cars, making it increasingly challenging for Tesla to dominate globally. According to some analysts, Tesla does need new models sooner in order to grow significantly in more countries, such as India and Europe.
The fall in the stock price of Tesla thus signals that investors are concerned. Many had expected this latest model to be a best seller, particularly if it was priced lower than other Tesla cars. Now, they’re afraid the company could lose time and market share.
Online, Tesla aficionados are divided on the issue. The delay is upsetting, some fans say, but they believe the product will be well worth the wait. Others cite the number of projects that Tesla has delayed and given late timelines for, including the Cybertruck and the long-promised Robotaxi. They feel the company must come through with actual results, not just prototype announcements.
Elon Musk, despite the negative market reaction, says Tesla is working harder than ever to make a new revolutionary EV with better range, smarter features, and faster charging. Only time will tell if this comes true. Till then, Tesla investors are hoping for a strong comeback by the company in near future.
